About Peter
Peter Hume is an Ottawa City Councillor who, over the last 17 years, has represented his community at both the local and regional levels of government. In 1991, at the age of 27, he was elected by overwhelming majority to represent Alta Vista on Ottawa City Council. Three years later he was elected as a member of the first ever directly elected Regional Council for Ottawa-Carleton. In 1997, Peter was re-elected to Regional Council. Always a strong proponent of single-tier government, Peter was elected in November 2000 to the Council for the newly amalgamated City of Ottawa and acclaimed to City Council in 2003.
In 2003, he was appointed Chair of the City of Ottawa's Planning and Environment Committee and member of Corporate Services and Economic Development Committee by his Council Peers. Peter has served on the Hydro Ottawa Board of Directors since 2004. In 2005, Peter was elected to the Board of Directors of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) and recently assumed the role of President of AMO.
Peter Hume is a life-long resident of the Alta Vista ward where he continues to reside with his wife Ann-Marie and their young daughter Helen. He attended Hawthorne Public School and Canterbury High School before graduating to Carleton University where he earned a degree in Economics. Peter is an active member of his community sponsoring and participating in numerous projects and events.
